It’s cold, windy and generally raining. It must be the yearly maintenance period.

During the Winter maintenance period, No 1 engine was replaced with a previously overhauled unit and is performing well.

Both body side heaters were inspected and replaced as it was reported that both heaters were running intermittently.

The electrical system was checked over as it was reported that batteries would go flat due to an earth fault. This fault was rectified and new batteries installed to replace the tired single cell variants.

Out with the old

The leading bogie was reported as having a bad wheel flat. After liaising with the Carriage and Wagon department, the decision was taken to send the bogie with a couple of coach bogies for tyre turning. The bogie has now been put back under the unit and the “thud” from the wheel flat has disappeared.
