About Class 117 – W51405, W59510 & W51363

Designed to work as a 3-Car set, each vehicle is slightly different in terms of its functionality.

British Railways Western Region Suburban DMU

W51405 is classified as a DMS:

Driving – there is a driving position at one end of the vehicle.
Motor – two diesel engines are fitted under the vehicle.
Second – all seating accomodation is for second class passengers.

W59510 is classified as a TCL:

Trailer – no engines are fitted, this vehicle is not self propelled.
Composite – contains both first and second class accomodation.
Lavatory – two in fact!

W51363 is classified as a DMBS:

Driving – there is a driving position at one end of the vehicle.
Motor – two diesel engines are fitted under the vehicle.
Brake – a section used for the conveyance of parcels, bicycles, etc.
Second – all seating accomodation is for second class passengers.

    As of July 2014, CDRL maintain a total of five DMU vehicles most of which are available for service on the GWSR

    Another fund raising effort culminating in CDRL purchasing and taking delivery of three additional vehicles in October 2011

    CDRL (Cotswold Diesel Railcar) was formed in the Spring of 2011 by a small group of volunteer workers from The Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway
